Case Study: The Real Time Condition Monitoring of Electrical Machines Using the MCSA and IoT

Majid Malekpour, Lecturer, UNSW

Description

Motor Current Signature Analysis (MCSA) is a non-invasive method that is widely used for identifying both electrical and mechanical failures, capable to be performed online without disturbing the normal operation of the apparatus being monitored.

– The application of the IoT along with MCSA in the diagnosis of faults in electrical machines
– A smart monitoring system which is capable of listening to the heartbeat of any electric motor and sending the machine data to any smart devices everywhere around the world.
– How to tackle the spectral leakage and spectral resolution that are the main difficulties associated with MCSA-based methods for the analysis of motor abnormalities in induction motors.
