Case Study: Shaft Alignment and Softfoot Correction – The Mystery Solved

Christo van der Walt, CTO Werner Bauer, Application Engineer

Description

Existing methods to detect and solve softfoot problems include using a shim or feeler gauge around the feet of a machine or using the built-in softfoot programs in laser alignment systems. Both these methods have limitations which can increase the time to get machines aligned within tolerance onsite. We propose a proven method of using the typical values from a softfoot program, populate a decision model, analyze the results and derive a course of action for correct shim thickness placement. The accurate shimming from our models has been proven and will save the technician a lot of time getting the alignment within the required tolerance. The presentation will include a number of practical examples and case studies showing as a primer for the steps to be followed in the field.
