Data-driven decisions are more likely to win management support and ensure your actions are focused in the right areas. So how do you get it right?
In this full workshop, we will start with the basics of statistics and then go deeper and deeper.
- We start with a quick review of average/mean/median, plus variance and standard deviation.
- We will use what we just learned to explain the pros and cons of MTBF, MTTR and MTTF.
- (We will quickly distinguish between repairable and non-repairable assets and how that affect our analysis.)
- We then explain correlation (at the heart of predictive analytics) and linear regression (forecasting/projections) and the Laplace trend test.
- Then we get into histograms (including Pareto analysis), data distributions, and probability density functions (PDF) and cumulative distribution functions (CDF) and how to use them for important maintenance/budgeting/reliability decision-making challenges.
- We will summarize normal “Gaussian” distribution (the bell curve), but then discuss Weibull distribution, Weibull analysis, and the famous failure curves (thus decreasing failure rate, constant failure rate, and increasing failure rate). This goes to the heart of RCM.
- And then we will move on to reliability growth analysis: the Duane model and Crow-AMSAA. You will be surprised how powerful these tools can be for justifying the effectiveness and value of your program.
- Then we will move further into the area of maintenance and reliability decision making: Pareto analysis, criticality analysis, reliability block diagrams, and Monte Carlo simulations.
- And finally, we will discuss data quality. Some people are skeptical of using data because they fear their data has poor quality. Not only will we explain how to collect good data (and the meaning of suspended data when the machine does not actually fail), but you will also learn that there is a lot you can do with poor data.
(Please note: this topic is covered in the ARP II course, but it is the topic that many people struggle with, so this is a great opportunity to get a jump start on the ARP II course and learn something that is tremendously powerful.)
