Hands-on: Understanding resonance

Jason Tranter, Founder and CEO, Mobius Institute

Description

Every vibration and reliability practitioner needs to understand resonance. It can trick us into thinking we have vibration-related problems that don’t exist, and it can cause high vibration and equipment (and structural) failure. In this session, we will explain the fundamentals of resonance, how it can affect our vibration readings, and how to ensure we don’t confuse resonance for looseness/weakness/flexibility. In addition to the famous Mobius animations and simulations, we will use “Elvis”, the new test rig, to demonstrate resonance (and mode shapes – you will learn why it is called “Elvis”.)
