Diagnosing gearbox faults with vibration, oil, and wear particle analysis

Jason Tranter, Mobius Institute

Description

Gearboxes are often critical components, therefore it is critically important that damage to the gears (and the bearings) is detected at the earliest possible opportunity. Focusing on vibration analysis (including enveloping, time waveform analysis, circle plots, time synchronous analysis, and autocorrelation), oil analysis (including an overview of how oil analysis can be used to detect the root cause of the gear failure), and wear particle analysis, this highly animated presentation will describe the common failure mechanisms and explain how these technologies provide an early warning. Two brief case studies will be presented that utilize these technologies.
